Under 16
Pride of place this week goes to the Under 16 team who won the 9
A Side league on Friday evening last in Annaduff with a victory
of Fenagh in a closely contested affair. This was the first
occasion that this group of players have overcome Fenagh. Well
done to the team who were excellent all evening. This group of
players are steadily maturing into quality footballers. Team
captain John Reynolds accepted the cup on behalf of the team.
The team coaches Mark Duignan and Sean Costello are to be
commended on the excellent way the team was prepared for the
final. Match report in the sports pages.
Under 14 Feile Weekend
With the dust now settled after the wonderful achievement of
having won their competition at the Feile in Derry the club
would like to extend its warm gratitude to their host club Drum
who looked after our lads so well over the weekend. All our
players and management had a wonderful weekend with the locals
and many friendships were made. It is hoped that Drum will visit
Gortletteragh next year. The group of players and mentors left
Gortletteragh after 9am on the Friday morning and travelled the
3 hour journey to Dungiven where they were met by their host
club and representatives. After a 15 minute journey the group
arrived in Drum GAA grounds where the host club had a guard of
honour for our players. After refreshments the two clubs played
each other, while Gortletteragh emerged victorious, the sight of
two of our top players in action for Drum in the second half
giving their all was greatly appreciated by the local
supporters. The boys then travelled with their host families to
their houses and later both teams travelled by bus to Celtic
Park, Derry for the parade. The players in their new gear looked
exceptionally well in the parade which took 2 hours travelling
from Celtic Park through the Bogside around by the Derry Walls
through the High Street past the reviewing stand where GAA
president Christy Cooney met our players and on to Derry City
University where they were picked up by bus later. A tired group
travelled home that evening. On Saturday morning the players had
an early start and arrived at Drum GAA grounds at 9am where tow
further rounds of the competition took place. After the group
stage Gortletteragh had topped the group. After an afternoon
break with their host families Gortletteragh and Drum players
and officials travelled the 1 hour journey to Ballymaguigan by
bus for the Semi Final against the Scottish Development team,
this was a tough struggle but the lads pulled away in the last
10 minutes to qualify for the final. They returned to drum for a
meal in the local community centre. After various speeches,
presentations were made to Drum GAA club and to all the host
families by our club officials and players, which were proceeded
by a disco. Our players returned a weary group to the host
families after 11pm while some of the adults attended the local
clubs annual draw and function later that night. An early start
on the Sunday morning for the final in Celtic park where we took
on Robertstown of Kildare. We were met at Celtic Park by our
team sponsor Frank Niblock and son Oisin. Having played with the
wind in the first half our team had built up a commanding lead.
However playing against the wind in the second half proved in a
tight affair but with every player giving his all victory was
achieved. The manner of the victory and the style of football
played was greatly admired by the large crowd present. The sight
of the Drum players and officials cheering every score as if it
was their own was one of the day’s highlights. What a great
occasion when our team captain Evan Ward stepped up to accept
the All Ireland Feile Trophy after the game. The team then
relaxed with their host club in the stands and after the skills
final ended we commenced the long journey home. KFC was visited
in Enniskellen for refreshments. A one hour shopping break in
Erneside shopping centre ensured that no sterling was taken
home. The team headed home for Gortletteragh, travelling through
Ballinamore, Fenagh and Mohill and into home territory. At
Trayne the group were met by a large crowd and the 1st Bonfire
of the evening organised by David Mitchell. The group then
travelled by Drumgownagh where a large Banner made by Rebecca
and Rachel adorned the old school wall. Noel and company manned
the Bonfire at Sean’s Cross and finally onto the pitch and
Community Centre where Parents, Club Officials, Players and a
large crowd of supporters greeted the players. Club Chairman
Sean Reynolds welcomed the group and congratulated them on their
wonderful achievement. After Photographs, refreshments and longs
discussions about the game the weary players were glad to return
to their own homes. Well done to those players who made history
by been the first group to bring All Ireland success to the
club. Many thanks to their mentors during the weekend; Colum,
Shane, Frank, Lizzy and Ita who gave their time to coach and
supervise the group. The main talking point during the weekend
was commented upon by our host Club apart from the standard of
football produced by the lads was the excellent mannerism shown
by our players. The players were as follows; Owen O’Bradaigh,
Keoghan Mc Govern, David Campbell, James Heslin, David Mulvey,
Glen Ward, Evan Ward, Niall Heslin, Jack Heslin, Oisin Fox,
Dylan Ward, Francie Flynn, Shane Kieghran, Conor Woods, Conor
Gallagher, Barry Heslin.
Skills Competition
Congratulations goes to Evan Ward who represented the club in
the skills competition over the Feile Weekend. Evan won his
heats on the Saturday and was again successful in the semi final
on the Saturday evening. He reached the last 6 in the overall
competition. While ultimate glory was not achieved Evan finished
4th overall. It was a wonderful achievement for Evan and the
club to be competing in the last 6 players in the country in
this competition.

A second and final order of Feile polo shirts & hoodie will be
